Wednesday Post

To be honest, I didn’t think this book was about religion at all when I first read it and so it is a bit amazing how it has been the topic of talk for three days now with more and more ideas to grasp about what Dostoyevksy is saying every day. From what I have understood about the discussions, Dostoyevsky is describing the problems that arise in the mind of a conscious man because he sees both sides of the belief system; the divine and the scientific. Dostoyevsky addresses this issue because it creates havoc in society when an idea that has been established for centuries is put to the test with a new idea and people are either ignorant and stubborn about opening up their mind or they switch completely and anger the other close-minded people. I thought Dostoyevsky very clever at this point because he found a way to play with his words in a way that he never once mentioned the words “religion” or “evolution, yet he talks about the topic for more than a page.
