What is logic

Unlike any other species in the entire world, humans have the capability to choose if we want to live or die. We do illogical, radical things that put our lives in danger such as skydiving and smoking because we know that we have the luxury of threatening our own lives. All other organisms are purely instinctual; they eat, breath, drink, and kill solely to survive. Humans have emotions and therefore do things that don't really make sense because we get satisfaction and pleasure out of the fact that we are free to do whatever we want with our lives.
From the paragraphs we read today, I felt as though the narrator was trying to tell the readers that logic really does not exist. Everyone, at one point, makes logic out of whatever it is they want to do. There is no universal rationale, no true logical way of doing anything, because everyone makes up reasons as to why they do certain things. If we do not all follow the same logical formalities, does logic really exist? And that is the question the underground man leaves us with, contradicting his previous statements that said logic is superior to religion and should dictate man's actions.
