The idea that all of us want to express our displeasure is a concept that I not only understand, but relate to as well. I think that this idea goes along with the notion that we do not like to see other people doing better that we are. I think we can all relate to what Mrs. Shapiro was saying today, when someone says they broke a bone or when they tell of some sad story, we all immediately start thinking of ways that we can tell our own story to make ourselves like we have conquered some incredible tribulation in our life. It’s an actually quite amazing part of the human condition, the notion that no matter how great a triumph someone has achieved or how horrific someones story is, we always seem to want to “one-up” that person. We are incredibly selfish creatures in this aspect even if we do not mean it maliciously.
