Today in class we discussed the advantage that humans have since they are able to choose to do something that they know is not in their best interest. It is no question that humans are the only species that are able to do this. We are not slaves to our instincts like all the other animals. The true question is: why is this an advantage? I believe that the true advantage lies in being able to decide for yourself how your life is going to turn out. I cannot imagine what life would be like if we had to do everything because instinct dictates. Life would be dull and monotonous. The advantage is being able to ride a motorcycle on the highway at 100 mph because its fun. Doing things because of the adrenaline and the fun that they produce is the true advantage that we humans have over animals, we are able to enjoy life rather than survive it.
