Thursday

I really don't understand why people got so upset with what we were discussing in class today. What the author seemed to have been saying, in my opinion, was that as a society, we strive for perfection in every area. We have this idea that if we keep working and keep perfecting our society, we will, one day, arrive at a utopian society. This, the author is saying, is far worse than what our society is know, even if it is with all of our bloodthirstiness, because it would be so dreadfully predictable and so dreadfully boring. If we were able to tabulate our everything in our society, specifically our emotions, it would take out all of the excitement of our life. There wouldn't really be an "romanticism" with the idea of love or any grief after sadness. Life would be so horribly dull and tasteless, that it doesn't even sound like something that I would want to live. If someone gave me the opportunity to look into a crystal ball and see what my life would be like, much like how this society would be, I would never take the opportunity, because it ruins the purpose of living by eliminating all elements of adventure and excitement.
