The idea of bragging about pain to other people as if it is some sort of accomplishment now seems like something so stupid to do. It is sort of just natural for people to talk about their pain and their individual struggles. It's like it's a social construction, the idea that the more we suffer and the more we take in pain, the harder we are working, and the more successful we will be in whatever field we decide to endure the pain in. Like Wendell said so effortlessly and subconsciously in class today: "No pain, no gain." I know it's a gym term, but that sort of idea builds on us and our society, and it is the backing behind the idea of bragging about pain, because it implies individual progress. I think Dostoyevsky is using explaining to the reader that literally anything can be explained with the right facts and delivery of words. I think Dostoyevsky believes that everything in our world, all of the laws in our world are social constructions that build on each other, much like how pain and success inherently build on each other through society.
