After reading several of my classmates interpretation of the
class discussions I have come to a conclusion about what I think Dostoevsky’s
meant by a mouse under the floor boards, which was the original title of the book.
Dostoevsky considers himself like a mouse who lives under the floor board, he
believes that he lives life as less then equal to a human. He is only seeing
life from the cracks in the floorboards, which means that he is not really
living life but watching it. A man of action is able to live and move according
to his moral values and opinions. A man of acute consciousness is in able of
living like everyone else because they understand to well that every side has
equal validity. This makes him incapable
of living like a man but like some other creature that watches man and is afraid
and simultaneously superior.
