Tuesday 2/11

Analyzing this novel spun my head in circles, to say the least. The underground man sees both sides to every story. He uses logic to prove his point, yet contradicts this very point by claiming that logic does not exist. First he talks about evolution and Darwinism, stating that people are unhappy with the doubts that these "proven facts" place on them about religion. Right when we think we have the underground man figured out, he mindf**ks us once again by saying that there is really no true explanation to anything. His sarcastic tone on page six goes to show that he also believes that humans have created everything, so really, the laws of nature are all made up. There are no explanations to anything, when we get to the root of it, but humans are not okay with that. We need logic, and laws, and rules in order to progress and advance. The truth of the matter is, humans created science in the same way that they created religion. But if these things didn't exist, what would become of us? Thinking about what life would be like without these rules and created ideas is impossible. Humanity needs a wall in order to "progress", whatever progression may be.
