Alone in a crowded room

It is human nature to have a desire to fit in and feel that we belong. Belonging is one of basic needs in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. No matter how much you despise other people, you still want to be accepted and fit in. Like we discussed in class, humans tend to be social creatures but at the same time we hate the idea of being controlled or defined as a group. Within the group, we will always voice our opinions and want to be an individual. We hate the idea that we are stereotyped because it takes away our individuality. Even though we long to fit into the collective group, we tend to do things that make us stand out, in either a good way or a bad way. In a way, it is like the saying "have you ever felt alone in a crowded room?" Even when we are within a group and it appears that we blend in, we still do not feel as if we belong because we have this underlying desire to be an individual and not follow the herd.
