Dostoyevsky brings up an important
point in the paragraph we read in class. Why does a baby shed so much light,
happiness and beauty if the baby has absolutely no knowledge what so ever? In
other words a baby is just an ignorant innocent living being, but why do they
bring so much attention compared to those people who have the same level of
knowledge, but are adults. Well I believe the reason a baby brings so much
attention is because they are so small and cute. Those qualities really make it
almost impossible to avoid them. Another idea is that a baby has no filter of
distortion; they have complete clarity and thus have the opportunity to be
anything they want to be in life. While a grown adult who is ignorant does not
have the beautiful features a baby has and most likely will stay ignorant for
the rest of his or her life.
Dostoyevsky also brings up an
important point on the art of revenge and why he is unable to execute it. Revenge
is such a simple thing that Men with little consciousness are able to accomplish,
but men with too high of a consciousness or intellect like Dostoyevsky are
unable to decide whether or not to take revenge. They end up over thinking every single detail
of what would happen if they took revenge and the consequences that could lead
from it, which ultimately causes them to not take revenge.
