Tuesday Post

Towards the end of our class discussion, we mentioned the wall that Dostoyevsky refers to throughout his book and what it actually means. I think that this wall symbolizes religion and its purpose on society. The unintelligent and active man praise this wall, while the conscious man does not. The reason for that is because the active man can not see with clarity while men with clarity can see the two sides behind the situation. The active man sees a wall and is thankful for its purposes because the wall helps keep other people or danger out, but due to their inability to see with clarity the active man does not realize that it keeps them locked in. This wall creates a boundary and sets limits for the active man. Since the active man can not see with clarity they do not even care to think about what could possibly be on the other side and what other things truly exist beyond these limitations.
