The wall
is what prevents people from reaching full and complete conclusions. The wall has
different effects depending on the individuals who hit the wall, “…dashes
straight for his object…and nothing but a wall will stop him…facing the wall,
such gentlemen [men of action] are genuinely nonplussed.” The men who are able
to choose different sides and avoid the opposing side’s arguments don’t care
about the wall because they don’t care if they doubt what they think. It isn’t
as important in their lives compared to people who reflect on different ideas
like the question Mr. Shapiro asked us in class and find the wall to be annoying
but will not accept its existence. Mr. Shapiro made us question our beliefs and
consider if we were capable of handling the truth about god’s existence. We survive
on a cafeteria plan because we are unable to completely believe in god and the
science behind creationism. We don’t want to know whether a God exists because
we feel comfortable hidden behind that wall.
