Mondays Discussion

Today during class, I was lost when reading the second half of the paragraph; i did not really understand what we were reading, but the discussion between the class gave me on idea on what was going on and caused me to think. The thing that caught my attention the most was Chow and Mr. Shapiro's argument. It is not easy to believe that we do not really have any freedom. We think we do because we make decisions for ourselves, yet we do not realize that we are making decisions from options that are narrowed down by outside forces. We actually think that we can go outside and do as we please, but in reality we cannot and none of us ever do and i believe it has to do with fear. We don't always do we want because we are afraid of the law, being judged by others, or as we mentioned in class our parents.

Regarding the point of ignorance, i agree with Talia when she mentions that no one has the honest ability of calling someone else completely ignorant due to the reason that we are all ignorant in one subject or another. No one knows everything, in fact, we know nothing. If everyone was as intelligent as Dostoyevksy and had as much concioussnes as him, then the world as we know it would not exist. The world would not progress because no one would be able to make a decision, which in a way inversely relates to what i was speaking about earlier. We would never be able to advance in any way because no one knows which way to go. I guess the world does need some sort of stupidity as uncomfrting as that sounds.
