Monday Post

On page 4, Dostoyevsky eludes to the face that when one has found something "sublime and beautiful" , they automatically fall into depression (mire). This reminds me of an example we talked about in the beginning of the year on how a teenager could be at the beach with all of his/Her friends and once they've reached that point of bliss, they think about school work and instead become stressed and unhappy with where they are. Why people do this? Why is this a part of human nature? Maybe, like Dostoyevsky was attempting to hint at, it is because of ones consciousness. Consciousness is like an illness and illnesses make people suffer, so by your consciousness making you remember your responsibilities which in turn make you suffer, it is an illness. But what would we become if we didn't have consciousness? What if I had no stress or worry about Writing this blog and due to a lack of consciousness, decided not to worry about it all together? Would I still be doing my work? Maybe consciousness is more of a compromise because it is difficult to live with it but nearly impossible to live entirely without it.
