Tuesday post

Finally finished the entire book. I enjoyed reading the second part of the book. You have this lonely, reserved, yet extremely intelligent twenty-four year old young man who goes against almost everything said in part one. In part one, the underground man speaks about not overthinking, about not being conscious, and about seeking self-respect. In part two, this young man chases after his four peers in Zverkov, Ferfitchkin, Trudolyubov, and Simonov, who he says that he had despised. He tells us that they don't understand the meanings of life and that makes him better than them. What is so stupid and frustrating about this point is that he does not realize that by them being in more successful positions than him by using a less mental capacity makes them superior to him. He sits back, and over thinks everything. This leads to him looking like an idiot in front of them. He does not search for self respect, and does not focus on himself. He focuses on how he can please others, which goes against what is said in part one. I dont know, I just thought that idea was pretty cool. I think the second part is more of a coming of age story also. I feel like he sort of changes after his encounter with Liza. He just gives off a different kind of vibe. A less pathetic vibe than in the first half of the second part.
