Friday Reaction

Thus far, this work of literature has proven incredibly difficult to decipher. The speaker, presumably the author, reminds me of the main character in “Crime and Punishment” Raskolnikov. Like Raskolnikov, this character seems incapable of making up his mind about himself. It seems like he thinks he is a bad person for being so entitled and demeaning, but he also seems prideful in that he is doing what he was made to do. Other than this, I was not able to decipher a whole lot from this story. I understand that he was a government official at some point and took pride in his work and power and never went down to a level where bribery was accepted. Like Raskolnikov, this character seems to be not only an extreme narcissist, but also a schizophrenic as he appears to be incapable of having coherent, clear thoughts.
