Even
though Part II is much easier to read than the first and I can understand what
is going on in the story itself, I am still completely unsure of what the
underlying meaning or message behind it all is. The more I read, the more I begin
to believe that the narrator is a crazy psychopath or just some really weird
person. First of all, he lies about everything. Not only to others in order to
look better, but to himself as well as a way of validating his cowardly
actions. Whenever he does not do something, he tries to ratify it, when in reality;
he just does not have the courage. He is also a hypocrite for calling other
people indecent men, when he is the one borrowing money from others and not
planning on paying them back; he even purposely forgets to pay his servant. Not
to mention, his obsessions with people are honestly ridiculous. He does not
forget about Liza after 15 years even though she never goes to visit him. He
holds a grudge on Zverkov since they were in high school. Something is going
with him; maybe that is his way of not feeling alone.
