Reaction - January 25th

As I continue to read Notes from the Underground, I learn more about our narrator and his personality through his thoughts. The narrator seems like a very unhappy person. He is constantly talking about all the bad aspects of his life and all the wrongs that he has done. From the first couple of pages he made it clear that he wasn't really a "people person". He makes it clear that he likes to be alone and doesn't mention any friends or family that he likes to spend time with. Besides not liking anyone around him, I think that the narrator doesn't even like his own self. From the couple of pages that I have read, not one positive thing is mentioned about himself or his life. I do not understand what makes him hate himself so much, because it does not seem like he is a bad person either. He continues to live a miserable life and doesn't try to do much to fix it. He tells us that for forty years he's been living "underground" and doesn't bother to get out and turn his life around. Hopefully as we keep on reading his thoughts he tries to better his own life and move out of this hopeless state he seems to live in.
