Reaction 3

I enjoyed reading about the narrator’s perception of free will. He starts off by saying that humans want answers to everything; they want a formula to life and if they could attain it, they would. Despite their desire to have a plan; a structure, they also believe that they have a right to freedom. The narrator highlights the contradiction in these desires; how can men be free, if they are following the previously mentioned established structure? The complexities in humanity are transmitted through the narrators view on free will, and though he exaggerates many of his opinions, I feel that they are very accurate. I also had the feeling that many people become annoyed or feel disrespected as they read the short story, because they probably reject the truths that this man emphasizes. That reaction would only add proof to the point the narrator tries to make about humanity.
