Discovery

So the narrator brought up an EXTREMELY interesting point of view on the world and how humans interact with it. "Indeed, if there really is some day discovered a formula for all our desires and caprices - that is, an explanation of what they depend upon, by what laws they arise, how they develop, what they are aiming at in one case and in another and so on, that is a real mathematical formula - then, most likely, man will at once cease to feel desire, indeed, he will be certain to." (page 18) This really struck me and I put it in my own words in order to truly relate and understand how valid it is. Basically, the world is like a single girl attempting to attract a man. If the girl reveals all of her secrets to the man and let's him know everything about her, he will loose interest. Now, if the girl remains mysterious and continuously lures the man to discover a little more and more about her every day, he won't be able to stay away from her. Which begs the question, why do we constantly try to find new things and learn everything there is to know about the world when in the end, it would be complete chaos if we succeeded?
