Based on Discussion

The discussion we had during class fit a lot of puzzle pieces together. I had my own theory of the narrator, thinking that he was solely a spiteful man trying to mess with the reader but now, after our discourse, I've realized this whole first part of the book is him trying to defend himself while revealing things to the reader. He constantly suffers from inward contradictions and finds himself to be a spiteful man, but at the same time a vulnerable man deep inside. He sees himself as a fool and an intelligent man.
Him claiming that people who live over 40 are rude and yet he is 40 and going to continue on living. This shows that he might have some self hatred and maybe sees himself as a rude person, either because he hates himself deep down inside or to show people that he doesn't care what they all think and he is self confident enough to live on in spite of others.
